Our Mission Statement

The mission of the Placerville Friends of the Library is
• to support the library, their patrons and staff
• to support the library with community outreach programs, services and facilities
• to enrich the lives of Placerville residents by advocating the use of our library
• to support our library through fundraising efforts which include memberships,
book sales, gifts and endowments

About the Friends

We are a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization supporting our community library. Funds raised by the Friends are used to purchase books and to support its educational programs. Unlike the other libraries in El Dorado County, the Placerville Main Library receives no specific direct tax support. It must rely on the Friends of the Library to provide the services patrons need—which makes it that much more critical to its success.

Board meetings are held at the library and the public is welcome. Come and learn about what we do and how you can support the library. Please contact the library to confirm meeting times and dates.

Volunteer Opportunities

We are looking for volunteers to help in a variety of ways:

• Help in setting up/taking down the monthly book sale
• Keeping the web page up to date
• Sorting/shelving donated books in our warehouse
• Promoting Friends of the Library at events sponsored by the Friends
• Writing short articles for the newsletter

About the Books

You may purchase gently used books:

• Book Sales are generally held on the first Saturday of each month from 8:30am - 1:30pm, behind the Placerville Library, 345 Fair Lane. $7/bag. Additional donations are appreciated.
• Shop our premium collection in the lobby of the Placerville Library during open hours. Great prices!
• Shop online. There are over 1,500 books currently listed on the Placerville Friends of the Library shop on Amazon. Books may be purchased directly from the Friends of the Library without paying shipping charges by submitting detailed information about the desired books. Please make checks payable to the Friends of the Library and pick up your selection at the main library, 345 Fair Lane, Placerville, California 95667. THERE IS NO GUARANTEE AGAINST PRIOR SALE.

The Life of a Donated Book

​You may donate gently used books and/or current magazines:

• Drive to the back of the library on Monday and Wednesday between 9am and 11 am

Donated books by the public will either be sold in the library lobby or at the monthly book sale. Books with a higher value will be listed for sale online. Books no longer needed by the main library are sold by the Friends during their monthly book sales. Proceeds from all Friends' book sales are used to support the Placerville library.
